celebrating personal style & life in new york city

city living {a traditional bedroom}

an imperfectly perfect made bed
One of my new year resolutions for CITC is to include more frequent city living + beauty posts on the blog. So, without further ado, I am excited to share the first peek into our current apartment – our bedroom. (You can find our last bedroom post here.)

My southern roots shine through in my decorating style. I love antique furniture, blue + white china, and I’ve never met anything that wouldn’t look better monogrammed.

For me, decorating is never complete, I am always moving things around or wishing to add something here or there. Currently, there are plenty of things I would love to add/change in our bedroom (wall art above the bed, a rug, and a desk in the window), but I look forward to sharing any updates with you as we are able to make small changes along the way.

antique gate leg nightstand
horchow gold mirror
blue + white lamp & sterling picture frames
This is my side of the bed, complete with an iphone/ipad charger, my favorite candle, sterling picture frames with rotating favorites, and an antique tray that serves as an evening catch all (jewelry, bobby pins, etc.).
extra books & blankets
I love having this basket by my bedside to keep current reading material and an extra blanket for cold nights. (Plus, it also helps to hide the cords.)
antique jewelry plate
We still have personalized matches left over from our wedding. I love being reminded of that night every time I light a candle!
anthropologie initial mug
The first things I reach for every morning – my ipad + coffee in my favorite (anthropologie) mug.
monogrammed pillows
Monogram sheets add a personalized touch.
restoration hardware italian cypress paisly bedding
antique night stand with base layer
FMK’s side of the bed consists of his current reading material, his watch winder and some fresh flowers (that are more for me than him).
night time reading list
We are the proud brother + sister-in-law of two of the authors in this stack of books, Elizabeth Knapp + Robert Eversz.
william sonoma monogram glass
^^^Are you noticing a trend here?^^^ … even the glasses are monogrammed.
create interest with textures
I love mixing textures and prints within a color scheme.
bedside flowers make everything better
Fresh flowers are the perfect finishing touch to any room. (And they are the one thing you can get cheaper in NYC than back home.)
armoire for extra storage
The extra storage an armoire provides can be life changing when your small city closet is less than ideal.
a room with a view
My absolute favorite thing about our bedroom is getting to wake up to this view. It is true – these lights will inspire you.

Thanks for sharing your bedroom – I too have never met something that I wouldn’t like to see “HPN” spalshed onto.

Love that I can see my apartment building from your view :)

The decor and set up is absolutely beautiful! Especially love the country/southern touches. The BF and I are currently on the hunt for a new apartment with great windows and views. We found a few in the Financial District, but open to other locations. Is there anyway you can let me know the name of this building so I can look into it? My email is karina@kcyouthere.com. (I hate to sound stalkerish, but I’m sure you know how difficult the hunt is for that perfect NYC apt!).

Beautiful, beautiful! Thank you so much for sharing your pictures. We are trying to find decor that’s comfortable, yet fashionable, and I love how you styled your bedroom!

From a fellow Texan, located in NW Houston, I have a quick question! Where did you find the cream-colored quilt with the diamond pattern? It has shams that match and are located closest to the headboard. I’m trying to find something like the quilt and shams for our new house in Houston.

    Many thanks,
    Elizabeth
