Color Me Happy

{Blouse, Skirt & Blazer: Zara, Shoes: Manolo Blahnik, Clutch: Balenciaga, Necklace: Cara NY via Gilt Groupe, Watch: TKO via Gilt Groupe, Bracelets: Stella & Dot}

As I am sure you are all well aware, color-blocking is probably the most talked about trend of the season.  I have been anxious to interpret the trend myself and what better place to debut the look than Lincoln Center where the trends are originally launched by the designer’s themselves.

Although this trend is all over the runways and fashion magazines (see Katy Perry on the cover of Elle), it hasn’t been adopted by the masses yet.  This is probably because it does require a little bravery to pull off.

Here are a few tips to help you confidently wear this trend:
-Choose colors on opposite ends of the color wheel like the pink and green I selected.  If you aren’t confident picking the color combination yourself, refer to the experts; Gucci: orange, purple and green or Jill Sander: pink, yellow and green.

-Ease into the tread by going tonal (two different shades of the same color) like Dian Von Furstenberg did with lime and kelly green.

-Two pieces will get the job done, but three is even better!

-The color closest to your face should be a flattering shade for your skin tone.

-Keep your hair and make-up simple and your accessories neutral (like my white bag and necklace).

-Try breaking up the colorful separates with a metallic belt.

I hope you are now feeling inspired to rock this trend yourself!  For more inspiration on color-blocking, check out Bloggers Do It Better.

Until next time,
SCITC

    Hi Caroline!

    I love, love the blazer. It’s too bad we don’t have a Zara here in San Diego :( I’m still not brave enough to go with 3 colors, but you have inspired me to try it out at least one time this spring. Fashion is supposed to be fun, right?!

    I love your color combinations blue matches perfectly with green and pink matches with both! you are right that accessories must have neutral tones (especially when you chose 3 colors to colorblock)!

    I LOVE the color story you’ve created! I have to agree that 3 colors are better than 2 when color blocking, but two are great too! ;-) You look AMAZING!

      Yes, two are fabulous as well! I am sure will be spoting both this spring because I am loving the bright colors!

    I found your page from the bloggers do it better challenge. You look great. My favorite element to your look isn’t even really the color blocking (though you do it well) I really love how you paired a structure blazer and the lady-like strappy sandals! Very pretty.
